Internet Safety Policy

PHILADELPHIA ELECTRICAL AND TECHNOLOGY CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL

INTERNET SAFETY POLICY/ ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

The Philadelphia Electrical and TechnologyCharter High School provides students with access to computers throughout our building, giving students access to network resources, software applications and the World Wide Web (internet). The technology we provide is intended to enhance the student’s educational experience, as well as assist with meeting educational goals and standards.

Before a student can utilize ourresources, students will be educatedabout the appropriate way to behave online, which includes the interaction between students, and between our students and others via the internet, whether it be on social networking websites, chat rooms (both video and text), email and the like.  Students will also be made aware of cyber bullying, and the consequences of this.

The internet safety instruction will take place during the first week of school, or before the student has the opportunity to use our network resources. When the instruction is complete, students will read and sign our Acceptable UsePolicy (AUP), which can be found in its entirety online, here: http://www.petchs.org/for_students/student_acceptable_use_policy/

Our AUP states the expectations of our users, and the consequences of their actions. All students are expected to apply what they learned in the internet safety course, and to abide by the policies documented in our AUP at all times.

It is only after the internet safety course is complete, and the AUP is signed that a student can use our computers, network resources, or the internet.

In addition to the safety course and the AUP, students are provided with CIPA compliant email accounts, and a CIPA compliant internet filter at all times.
