Co-Op Course Description

Cooperative Education is a course designed to afford the student the opportunity to develop skills and gain work experience, while receiving exposure to a variety of technical and administrative career fields. The students will spend a portion of their school day working for an approved company or organization, in lieu of classroom work. 

Student responsibilities include:

  • Weekly Class Meeting
  • Weekly Time Cards
  • Average of 15 hours of work per week
  • Monthly journal logs
  • End of semester employer evaluation                                                 

 Career Seminar Course Description

The one semester course emphasizes skills needed to prepare students for the work environment and shows the relevance of school and their future. With a foundation based on skills this course covers: the job application process, job etiquette, ethics, teamwork, attitude and more. Students will receive instruction in areas of: Employability, Career Planning and Workplace Interpersonal Skills. The following standards and benchmarks will be covered.

 

Program Area: Employability

Standards: Students will be able to demonstrate the process of obtaining employment and learn the skills to maintain employment.

Benchmarks:

  • Demonstrate skills for obtaining employment
  • Correctly complete a job application
  • Design a resume
  • Demonstrate industry acceptable interviewing techniques
  • Use a variety of resources to look for employment
  • Learn the necessary skills to become an effective team player in the workplace
  • Identify and demonstrate the appropriate dress, hygiene and behavior in a variety of workplaces

 
Program Area: Career Planning

Standards: Students will understand the career planning process and understand the importance of career exploration.

Benchmarks:

  • Analyze career options based on interests, education, work values, salaries and training to create a plan for post high school.
  • Learn how to utilize high school and community resources for career interests.


Program Area:
 Workplace Interpersonal Skills

Standards: Students will identify and demonstrate proper and effective communication in the workplace. 

Benchmarks
:

  • Analyze career options based on interests, education, work values, salaries and training to create a plan for post high school.
  • Learn how to utilize high school and community resources for career interests.
  • Identify and demonstrate effective teamwork skills
